Itinerary:

Monday, Jan 14--
We arrive in Cancun this afternoon where we will be met by our air conditioned charter bus which will transport us to the beautiful colonial city of Valladolid.   We will check into our hotel where you will have time to unpack before exploring this delightful town .   Take a short 10-15 min. stroll into the town center to check out the beautiful park and centuries old church and enjoy the atmosphere of this wonderful city.

Tuesday,
Jan 15--We will board our bus and head to the ruins of Ek Balam,  a newly excavated Mayan city with spectacular architecture and beautiful carvings.  Next, we will travel to Cenote Xkeken (also known as Dzitnup), where you will be able to experience one of the incredible phenomenons of the Yucatan.  These are fresh water pools or 'lakes' found all over the peninsula.  (Read about cenotes in National Geographic here.)  You can swim in the cenote or just enjoy the beauty of this incredible 'cave'.  Next, we will visit a nearby typical Mayan village, where we will leave clothing and gifts for the local people.  You will be able to see just how these wonderful people live and get a peek into one of their humble homes.

Wed, Jan 16
--We will need to check out of our hotel this morning before visiting Chichen Itza, one of the most well known Mayan archeological sites. After Chichen Itza, we will visit Cenote Ik Kil for lunch (included) and time to swim.  Cenote Ik Kil is a well type cenote with wonderful vegetation and waterfalls.  After visiting the cenote, we will board the bus and head to the beautiful colonial city of Mérida.

Thurs, Jan 17
--Our first excursion out of Merida will be a visit to Dzibilchaltun, highlighted by the Temple of Seven Dolls, a fresh water cenote, and the ruins of a 16th century Spanish church.  After visiting Dzibilchaltun, we will have lunch and spend a relaxing afternoon at Progreso Beach, the heart of the Emerald Coast.

Fri, Jan 18
--Our next Mayan archeological visit will be to the ruins of Kabah, which in Mayan means "Strong Hand".  We will then visit the large and spectacular ruins of Uxmal   Uxmal stands for "built three times" and features the Governor's Palace, The Pyramid of the Magician, a large ball court, and the Great Pyramid.

Sat, Jan 19
--We will be checking out of the hotel so please be packed with your luggage by the bus by 9:00 am.  On this day we will leave Merida for the coast.  Tulum. Tulum is an ancient seaport situated directly on the crystal clear coast of the Caribbean.  We will meet our guide at Tulum where he will give us an explanation of the buildings and point out many historical significances of this site.  After our tour, there will be time for enjoying the clear blue waters of this beautiful area.  We will have a few minutes to eat or buy a few souvenirs before we board the bus and continue on our journey to the coastal resort town of Playa Del Carmen, a wonderful resort right on the Caribbean Sea.

Sun, Jan 20
These next two days will be free time to enjoy and explore Playa Del Carmen.  There are many options and we have included suggestions in your packet.  Please let us know what you’re interested in and we will steer you in the right direction. Enjoy this tropical paradise!  We will arrange today to attend a local LDS church service in the morning.
